ELS: Essential Blending Books Phase 3 Class Pack

This pack contains six copies of 7 Essential Blending Books that allow children to practice and focus on the GPC’s they are learning in Phase 3 and the art of blending to read words. These books support the Knowledge Trust’s validated SSP programme, Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS), in the 2^nd half of Reception’s Autumn Term and 1^st half of Spring Term.

Children can practice GPC’s aloud, blend to make a word and check if they are correct by turning the page to see a pictorial representation.  At the end of each book there are sentences to practice harder to read and spell words (HRSW’s).

Essential Letters and Sounds follows the progression of Letters and Sounds (2007).

Autumn Term 2

• Week 1, Book 6 — j, v, w, x
• Week 2, Book 7 — y, z, zz, qu, ch
• Week 3, Book 8 — sh, th, ng, nk
• Week 4, Book 9 — ai, ee, igh, oa

*NB Week 5 & 6 is a Review week

Spring Term 1

• Week 2, Book 10 — ar, ur, oo, or
• Week 3, Book 11 — ow, oi, ear, air
• Week 4, Book 12 — ure, er, ow (snow)

*NB Week 1, 5 & 6 are Review weeks

As part of our service, every book will be fitted with a free protective book cover to help its longevity.
